So this is a question that is out of left field. I was hoping with all the expertise on the forums that I could get some advice.
I just had a teacher that retired, give me a setup that was used to raise trout in the her classroom. It has a chiller, UV sterilizer, pump, and filter. I would like to use the setup to raise some trout with the scout group that my son is in. Has anyone had experience getting trout eggs to do something like this? Or actually raised trout from eggs for one of their ponds? BTW, I am located in Idaho.

Contact a fish farm in Idaho for the eyed eggs. Here is a partial list: Idaho Fish Farms Explain what you want to do. I am sure someone will help you out. If not, contact the ISDA and see where you can get with the program. These are usually called Trout in the classroom, or Salmon in the classroom. Let us know how you make out.

Thanks for any and all input! You'll need an incubator to to hatch eggs or you can build one out of plastic liter bottle, some tubing, and small air stone for the size of your operation. It would be easier just to buy the fingerlings. The teacher won't steer you in the right directions with some instructions. Did she leave the state or something?

I helped do what you are talking about in fish culture class in graduate school. Your unit is probably a system sold by Frigid Units Inc. At school we just laid the eggs on a floating screen to hatch them. Eggs were periodially dipped in formalin solution or something similar to minimize fungal growth. Then we fed fry a trout powder. Trout are domesticated enough that they readily accept dry / moist food at swim-up when yolk is almost absorbed. Frigid Units, Toledo Ohio may have some info how to do this.
