I live in NE Oklahoma, just outside of Muskogee. I have a 1-acre pond that I'm ready to start stocking. My goal is a BG/LMB pond. Step one is to stock bluegill. I have two fish farms close enough to buy from without huge delivery charges.
One does not carry coppernose bluegill -- standard only. They say that coppernose don't do well in this area because of the cold winters.
The other carries coppernose and says that they do fine here and are better because they grow larger and because they're 80% female. From my research online the "larger" statement is true but the "80% female" statement seems off. If they're wrong about this I wonder if they're also wrong about coppernose doing well in this climate.
So, will coppernose bluegill survive and thrive in a pond in my area? Should I go for coppernose or standard? If coppernose, should I trust a fish farm that claims that coppernose reproduction creates 80% females?
