After reading here how to try to rid of my FA. I bought some CP in the granules. I have about a 1/2 ac. pond. What I am confused about is how much to use. I used a hand spreader and spread probably half of the 12lb container along the shorelines to start with erly yesterday AM.
I really havent noticed any change yet, how long does it take?
Did I use the right amount?
Any help is appreciated. don't want to hurt my fish.

IMO when using algacide one should treat a few measured small areas with known amounts. Watch for results. Different species of algae have different resistances to treatments. When you see an acceptable responce use that dosage.

Whenever one has large amounts of algae to be killed never kill it all at one time. Treat subsections several days or a week apart to prevent large sags in loss of dissolved oxygen.

So a couple day and I should see if it is working? have read places where they would see results starting within hours. I haven't seen that.

Correct. Granules are recommended for algae that is under a couple feet of water or greater, liquid for floating or higher up in the water column. It sounds like a stronger dose is necessary, the liquid Cutrine is needed, or it really isn't algae.

I've seen the FA turn color from green to yellow to almost white (depending on the dosage) in as little as an hour.

I use granules in shallow water as well. Sometimes it takes over a week for the FA to turn totally brown or go away.

For instance, I spot treated some FA on 3/18. On 3/25, I noticed that most had turned brown (or brownish red) but a little was still pale green. Any FA I treat is usually gone in two weeks.

Got out this weekend and raked out as much as I could reach. Then spread the rest of what I had. probably about 6lbs of CP. Pond is only almost 1/2 acre. I spread it over probably the 1/4 of the pond. I will wait and see if it takes effect, then get more and treat another area. I will get more granules and also some liquid. I will treat the floating algae with the liquid and spread granules to the rest. Am I on the right track? My biggest worry is about how much to use or how much CP it is going to take to treat my nearly 1/2 acre pond.

I dont know the laws in MO but can you not use tilipia?

They seem to be serial killers of FA. and serve to provide 3-5 spawns per year for predators.

They also die off in 55- water so you dont have to worry about over population.

According to the label, a 30 lb bag of Cutrine-Plus granules will treat 1/2 acre.

What do you all recommend for treatment for both floating AND submergent?

I really don't want to have to buy both granules AND liquid

I would LOVE to put tilapia in, but don't really have a close place to get them from I don't think. I will look into it.

I would use Granules I put some out the other day and I noticed they do sink but they also settle on the mats as well. So I think if i had to choose I woulud use the Granules. That's just me though.
