I have an old farm pond with largemouth bass and someother species in it. Will my bass eat pellet food?

My bass are skiny, so I need to do something. Would adding fathead minnows fatten up the fish?

Jake,

It takes 10 pounds of forage to add one pound to one LMB. That's a lot of fathead minnows and not a cost effective way to increase LMB weight. You mentioned "someother species". It would help to know what those are and also some more info on your pond...how large is it? With some
additional info, we can offer suggestions for increasing your LMB weights without breaking the bank.

It is an 8 acre pond. It has crappie(acident), bluegill, green sunfish(acident), bullhead(acident), common carp(acident) channel catfish(very few, havent caught one in years). It is very clear.

Jake,

Your question sounds very similar to a previous question you had about a 5 acre pond in this post:

http://www.pondboss.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=000110

The advice given then by several folks was to remove as many of the undesirable fish as possible. Doing that will help improve your forage base for the LMB. In addition, it sounds like you also need to remove the small LMB, i.e LMB under 12 inches. By taking these steps, you will increase the available forage for the remaining LMB and improve their weights.

If the pond is 8 acres, you've got some fishing to do.
