Is it ok to fertilize with chara covering at least 40 percent of the pond bottom? 3 1/2 to 4 acre pond in lower alabama/Added 40 grass carp in march and would talapia help with chara? Thanks

I'll difer to the experts but I'm almost positive you will be fertilizing the Chara. Once algae (of which Chara is) or any macrophytes takes hold they will draw nutrients away from your phytoplankton.
If it was me I'd wait until the grass carp have it under control.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

I doubt that tilapia will help much on the Skunkweed. Nor will the carp this year. However, next Spring, they will be eating the sprigs as they try to get started.

Treat it now and grass carp and green water from fertilization should keep it at bay.

I have been noticing the chara floating around in the wind I reckon its where the GC have snatched it up? They seem to stay in a school see them every afternoon in the shallow side of the pond
