Last September I stocked 1500 bluegill that were 1/2 inch long into my new pond. I have been watching to see if I can see any in the shallows. I haven't been able to see any yet. The water is fairly clear. Today I held a garden rake under water from my dock. I could see the end of it about 4 to 5 feet deep. I am surprised I can't see any fish yet. There are lots of frogs, tadpoles and water bugs in the shallows. When can I expect to see the fish?

the first year I did not see mine until the came in to spawn (mid April). I stocked three inch BG. The following year they followed me everywhere because I fed them. Hang in there, they are moving around. Do you where polarized glasses? They are starting to move into the shallows, but still are very small since you stocked them in the fall.

Without fish predators present small fish will often stay in deeper water for protection from above predators such as birds.
