If the dam is sloppy or softened from recent rains, it may preclude vehicle access to the spill/launchway. Also, the slope of the launch would make your front dam slope fairly minimal.
I like the outta-da-box thinking. All the con's could be overcome with some engineering, compensating, and cash.
