grin I figured that after our Miss. winter here, you were going to get our winter next year and have plenty of ice to stand on!

There are other options, like what people use in lakes where piers have to be removed every year. Flat plates on the bottom of posts to support the pier, or the end of the pier on a large set of tires so it can be rolled in/out of the water. Either could be placed in the pond and left.

I'm in the process now of building a floating pier at my place, using 4"x6" posts for the fixed portion of the pier.
