pappy, the other thing to think about is that Mother Nature wants to continually fill in ponds. So, in a couple of years you might lose a foot or so of depth. When I renovated my pond I lost 3'-4' of depth in the first month.....  I didn't prepare for Hurricane Ike to come roaring thru when I was in Wy. hunting, and the rain washed a bunch of dirt into the pond. I didn't have erosion controls in place, nor was the grass established yet.
