+1 on the Deckmate brand screws. They are made for outdoor conditions and alot less expensive than SS.

It has begun. I have the deepest 2 posts started but getting too wet so now I'm gonna add the two side joists and then pound the posts a little deeper. I'd post a pic if I could fugure how to do that from my phone. Oh, and I forgot to buy deck hardware. Not the first time for that let me tell ya. I'm gonna overhang on the end about 14 in. I'm using 2x6 so I think that will be ok.

Without saving the images to an on-line server like photobucket, I don't know how to post images to the forum either.

I think I'm gonna have to add another pair of posts. aaaaaand I don't think 8 feet is gonna reach dry ground when the pond is full. maybe a ramp or something. don't know. my 8 ft posts are just barely tall enough. they can maybe sink another 1/2 foot or so before there is a problem. I've got the front 2 posts pounded about 20 inches in the ground. nice Indiana clay....gotta love it.

I've already started the advil, gonna have sore back and shoulder muscles tomorrow. I've never been any good lifting heavy things above shoulder level, and I'm nowhere near 8 ft tall!!

I wish I could have pulled off the same as you with metal pipes, but I have so many stones embedded in my clay I have a snowballs chance in hell of getting a post in vertically! Had to come up with a different method which required a lot more work!

Yes we have lots of limestone here in southern Indiana but none up here at my pond site. thank goodness.

I'm gonna add the end boards today and a few deck boards. 40 mph wind gusts here today...sorta like a coastal town around here! well, except, no coast! wind is out of the south too, bringing some nice warmth with it. So it won't be so bad when I get my feet wet.
