Stocked 5 acre pond in November and December with catfish, coppernose and redear along with fatheads. The catfish are boiling the water pretty good now, but I'm not seeing any coppernose feed yet. Is this unusual or not? Literally thousands of minnows along the edges of the pond. Stren feeder is feeding mid morning (7 seconds) and late afternoon (10 seconds). I guess it's possible BG are feeding in the morning when I'm not there, but I would think I would see some feed in the evening. Any help appreciated.

RatherBFishin,

Wonder what your water temps are? However, if the cats are feeding, then the BG should also. Possibly they are feeding but are intimidated by the cats and you can't see them.

My BG started feeding a couple of weeks ago as soon as the temps approached 60 degrees.

Water temps are probably about the same as yours Meadowlark. I live 28 miles south of Longview and 9 miles north of Carthage. Kinda worrying me about the BG. Where do you live?? Thanks for the reply.

If you stocked fingerling BG in December, they may just not be big enough to compete with the cats yet at the feeding trough. Give 'em another month or so of growth and metabolism increase and I bet you start seeing them.

You may be feeding at a place where the baby BG don't hang out. You can't really expect them to swim a hundred or so yards in your 5 acre pond. Get a bucketful of feed and go find them. Even after they grow up, most won't live in the area of your feeder. I had to go find them in a one acre pond. I now feed in 3 places.

Our BG are three years old now and it took them some time to find the feed.

We feed in one place on a two acre pond, and at around a pound+ apiece for the larger ones, they splash water out of the pond.... \:D

We recdently added a second Stren ADF-75D feeder for HSB, and feed high protein Aquamax 500/600 in both feeders.

It takes patience and for me that is very difficult. \:\)

When i started feeding my bluegill and catfish, the bluegill were the first ones to take the floating pellets. When the catfish found out what the pellets were and started eating, the bluegill stop coming up to eat because they were afraid they were going to be lunch. So this may be part of the reason they are not coming up.

I stocked all large BG. May need to find them, but I figured they would eventually find the feed as the stren scatters it pretty good. Figured they would eat around the edges of the food thrown.
