I used to get intense algae blooms in the winter in one of my production ponds if I left just standing water in them. Now I keep them filled for the winter.



In addition to what Bill said i would try and set up a little diffusion aeration close to shore next winter to keep a small area open. It's a lot easier than trying to keep snow off the ice.
