Greg Grimes warned me two months ago about this and he was right, feed prices here in Georgia have really jumped since last year.

Last year I was paying $11.50 for Purina Chow near Atlanta and $9.00 For catfish food near my farm. This year it is $13.50 and $11.50.

What increases are everyone else seeing?

Soybean prices for feeding deer have also gone through the roof. Now using goat feed.

Bill, so far my price for Purina Aquamax 500 and 600 is holding, but still expensive.

May '03 yellow corn @2.30 per bu. bean meal at 179.40 per ton. May '04 yellow corn at 2.95 per bushel and bean meal at 314.00 per ton.

We're setting up for a decent crop this year so maybe feed px's will moderate later in the summer. Although I've found they go up faster than they come down.

Bill, over in Columbus I am buying Cargill Aquafeed at $9.00 for 50 lb bag. It is 32% protein my BG and cats really like it. It was 8.50 last year so it only went up a bit.

My Purina Game Fish Chow was 10.50 though November last year, now it is up a buck to 11.50 per 50 lb bag.

I think we'll see price increases across the board. When oil increases, fuel increases and energy costs increase. Consumers will pay for increases in manufacturers costs as well as for increased costs is shipping. Building materials are skyrocketing because of the old supply and demand tricks; the Middle East is getting a lot of those materials but, strangely, China is the biggest importer at this time. We are not likely to see price reductions anywhere even if energy costs reduce.
Consider the sugar "shortage" that was claimed to exist twenty five or so years ago. That year, farmers here were paid up to sixty-four dollars a ton for sugar cane, and everything containing sugar increased exponentially. The following year, the price of sugar cane was back down, but there was no corresponding decrease in anything containing sugar. I suspect that we are, and will always be, victims of Wall Street manipulation.

I'm trying a new feed this year instead of Aquamax 600. My local farm store gets me a feed called Farmers Choice, the Wipers seem to really like it. They have a 36% with 3/32" pellets for $14/ 50 #, or I buy the 42% 1/8" pellet for $15.50. I figure I'm saving around $8 per bag!

Jason, I'm jealous that sounds like a great price for the protein level. Bill the FRM folks just brought me 200 more bags today. I booked it back in March after it had went up slightly. I told them I might need some more and the current price for me had went up $1.75/bag. They also said though they think it might be coming back down, but like someone said it goes up faster than it comes down.

Some of you buying food at such cheap prices might be getting fairly old feed. Look on the bag (many times on the strip that you tear off) at the date. If later than March or so the store has had it awhile and might still go up on price.

Hey Greg,
I remember seeing a website address on the bag, it seems like it was made in MO, could be wrong though. I'm travelling right now, but when I get home I will get the website and post it. Never hurts to check into another supplier.
