For swimming, consider a floating dock. This will allow you to leave a natural edge and help keep the water clean by keeping the swimmers in deeper water. It's also a nice place to sit. The natural edge might also encourage wild ducks to visit and reduce their effect on water clarity. We sometimes have 50 woodies stop by without effecting the clarity of our 1.3 acre pond which has a natural edge all around.
Soooooo, could I do Pumpkinseed, LMB, YP, and a couple catfish to help with cleaning or something? (anything else I could/should add to help create a balanced ecosystem?)
How far North are you? LMB do have a northern range...if you're beyond it might be risky to attempt to build a fishery around them. Can you check with local waters and see what panfish [BG, PS] and whether they have SMB or LMB? Would help you make some decisions on what type of fishery to establish.
I'm pretty sure you'd be looking good with a YP, PS and SMB fishery, but you'd need to hammer the PS in order to keep their population in check and sizes optimal.
Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after. ~ Henry David Thoreau
