I think fish predators prey on healthy and vulnerable species. Although the catch rate is much higher for predators and least expense of energy is for the vulnerable species. Most weight gain comes from the larger prey items the predators can effectively utilize. Abundant prey species that are larger sized provide numerous individuals annually that are at the end of their life span and thus easy prey. A key feature IMO that feeds large predators.
The theory above is why Aquamax Largemouth is such a good product for growing large bass.
