What is best for feeding bluegill, purina game fish chow or Aquamax?

Woody, bluegills do not need the higher protein and higher cost of Aquamax. Go with Fish Chow

Studies have shown that higher protein levels are better for even bluegills, but if your bluegills feed on other things besides the Gamefish Chow they should be O.K. Additionaly bluegills do not need the higher protein levels some other fish do and have even been know to feed on plant material. However for predator fish like bass I would suggest the Aquamax as they need higher protein levels.

Purina Gamefish Chow was never meant as an exclusive feed for fish, but as a supplement. I was told that at their headquarters when I called. If you call them they should tell you the same thing. Serious growers of fish use their Aquamax. I use a different brand of feed for my bass that is even higher in protein.

Can the lower protien (32%) Aquamax for omnivors be used as an exlusive feed for bluegill rather that just a suplement?

jb, I think why you are asking is to raise some bluegill in cage culture? If so 32% can be used as an exclusive food, but growth will be much better and faster with high protein feed. The term supplemental feeding is used to describe what you are doing in a pond. In other words you supplment their natural foods (that are higher in fertilized pond) with a fish food. This implies with 32% or high potein Aquamax.

BTW if using just 32% why not go with a cheaper version than Aquamax? They make great high end food, but don't agree there is a BIG advantage of Aquamax 32% and X brand 32%.

Well actually the reason that I was asking was to get an idea as to whether or not the 32% Aquamax for omnivores was more nutrient rich or something than the 32% Game fish chow. The 32% Aquamax costs the same as the Game fish chow so I figured that if it was good enugh to be an exlusive feed than it would be that much better as a suplemental feed. It's really more of a curiosity than anything else but not knowing the difference between the two has been driving me crazy.
