That would be a nice surprise to run into while fishing for steelheads.

Yeah! I've got a 30 pounder I'm dong for a guy that was fishing with 6 lb. or 8 lb. test for walleye in the St. Joe. It will be a pedestal mount (no seam) going after a yellow perch. He's going to build a coffee table around it.

I'm wondering if they will reproduce in the St. Joe River. They supposedly don't in our natural lakes where they are planted.

Well, it looks like I'll have some snow to move when I get back home on Friday night then.

We are going to get a few flakes out of that one starting tomorrow. Supposed to be sunny and in the 50's today. Nice winter so far.

Another Big One missed us here in Grand Haven, MI.

There are more blade's of grass on the ground than snow flakes. Seriously!

Parking lot's with water on them tend to freeze in the early morning, but quickly melt when the Sun comes out.

Not the Winter I expected, but Hey, I'll take it!

I have seen this twice before in my 51 years on the planet.

I have also experienced snow so deep that you are literally incapable of opening an external door because the snow was higher than that on your house.

Glad we are having an easy Winter!

I hear that. I remember getting sent out of the house thru a window when I was a kid to shovel out the doors so they could be opened.

Forcast is for 51°F on Thursday.

We've had some crazy warm days here on my side of the WV mountains. Our biggest snowfall this year was like 3" and it was gone within a couple of days. I know Ken has had a bit more than that, but overall it has been a ridiculously mild winter so far. I haven't worn anything heavier than a windbreaker this winter so far. No fear of winterkill with this pattern!

The average January temperature for Oklahoma is 16 degrees warmer year over year. Last January averaged 28 F. This January averages right around 44 F. Huge difference.

I thought the weather was kind of boring in Florida too. grin Every day was sunny and highs in the 70's and low 80's. I was asked down there if I liked the weather by a receptionist coming out of a fitness center I went to with my parents. I replied, "I wouldn't mind having a little snow." I got a really really dirty look and the woman told my mom there was something wrong with "that young man." laugh

Florida was nice but I like the changing of the seasons myself. A little too congested in the Tampa/St.Pete area for me too. But then again I'm a redneck from Indiana. What do I know?

JKB,

Did you dodge the lastest snow? I just saw on the news where a foot of snow was dropped on Western Michigan.

We had a very quick snowstorm again last night. Right at 8:00 PM our big grey long-haired fuzzball cat was hollering outside the back door like something was seriously tormenting him. Thankfully, I've got a DVR,so I didn't really miss any of opening minutes of Hee Haw. I let him in and was very surprised to see how hard it was blowing and snowing. Visibility barely extended to the back porch steps. The cat looked like the abdominal snowman on one side, and like himself on the other. He came in and shook off a bunch of snow on the kitchen floor. We got about an inch of snow in the next hour. Then the stars appeared.

It was 55 yesterday afternoon. It is 45 now. Somehow, it had dropped into the low 20s after sundown last evening, where it stayed until mid-morning today. Still, I've only had to plow driveway snow twice this season, which is pretty unusual -- especially when our biggest snow was 9-inches in late October.

We did not get any of it. It's been sunny all day long grin
A couple of flakes over night, but that was it.
Gonna be a nice week!

Strange, but I live less than 2 miles from the South Pier on Lake Michigan in Grand Haven. Usually we get pounded, but this year it is all falling inland or North/South of us. Last winter I lived in Fremont, and a similar pattern, everything to the West/North/South of me.

I must have snow repellant properties crazy

65 degrees here in Lincoln, and only three snow events this year totaling around 3-4" cumlatively. The 10 day forecast calls for continued temps FAR above normal - 40s and 50s every day. I'm done praying for ice - now I simply want an early thaw so I can get back to pond management.

Yeah, I say let's move on already.
The pond behind my apartment never completely froze this year. No winter aeration either. The ducks seem to enjoy it, although they get really noisy at times. My windows have been open all year so far. Nice to have clean air coming through.

My wife told me the same thing happened here in Indiana. Apparently some kind of cold front squall line.

Hopefully you won't get what we get here in Indiana when we have a mild winter. Typically we end up with a cold spring where temps are below normal until June.

I was just thinking the same thing...cold, windy Spring that heads directly into 90 degrees in early June with zero real Spring at all. I'll take open water, anyhow.

I cannot believe that, in Michigan of all places. I checked the 10 day for Minneapolis and couldn't believe the numbers...above freezing for 8/10 days forecasted. Unbelievable.

It don't happen very often, but when it does, it is really nice.

Next Winter could be a real screamer. Like they say, "Weather happens in Michigan"!

I detest that outlook grin, but probably true frown

I wonder if my test holes will have any liquid in them? Nah, too much to hope for.

I never got around to filling them in, and so far, have not been sued by trespassers.

That is a good thing, Right? grin

Wow JKB, you got lucky yesterday. I'm about 35 miles south of you around Hamilton and we walked into church at 9:00 AM with barely a flurry, walked out about 11:00 AM and it took me 40 minutes to make the normal 10 minute drive. By 1:00 PM it was over with 8"-10" on the ground.

JKB make those holes a little larger, and when you find a trespasser in one, just start shoveling! Cask of Amontillado style!

Last winter was a real screamer down here. Of course just before this winter everyone was saying it was going to be a hard winter just like they do every winter. I ask them how they know and of course they come up with all kinds of silliness like the caterpillars have more fur etc. It just amazes me how people can believe such rubbish.

When I used to do whitetails as a taxidermist before specializing in fish, I used to get people predicting winter by the amount of fat on the deer hides. Funny thing was they had lots of fat before every winter regardless of how mild or severe the winter was. Of course it has more to do with what they have for forage and the amount than anything else. I.e, mast crop levels, access to beans and corn, and population dynamics. To think the deer can consciously know what winter will be like and eat accordingly is just silliness IMHO.

Another beautiful day today. A touch windy, but the sun was blindingly bright and warm. Low 50's. Only snow is where plows piled it up, but melting fast.

A fitting end for JUNEUARY laugh (heard that on the news this morning)

Starting to get garden fever! If I had a pond, I would really be feverish!!!

I am glad there were some recent posts about fruit trees. My sister has not had much luck with them in the past. I want to try a dwarf orchard. Our soil is pretty acidic being that the area has been a forest all of it's existence.
