With the rain of the last few days, my new lake in central Missouri is finally starting to fill. I took these in early November, before I started building gravel beds in the draws.

Best I can tell, the lake will cover about two acres. The hole in front of the dam looks like it might be half an acre. The main stem runs to the northwest and will have at least three times as much surface as will the dam hole. There are at least six timbered draws that run out of the main hole and the main stem, and I don't know how much surface area they'll have. But they'll sure have a lot of brush!

I put down 15 tons of gravel in the biggest of those draws (not pictured, but it runs east on the south side of the lake.) The photo marked "great wall" shows the clay embankment that separates that draw from the main lake. I've lined the base of it with a jumble of hand-sized to head-sized limestone rocks.

Now that the gravel's gone, I'm building a new rockpile every weekend.

Can't wait to stock bait fish this spring!

I'm wondering if there may be a problem with seepage in the areas that were not compacted? I'd like to see pics of it at full pool after it fills. I'll bet it'll look nice.

I don't think the builder did much compacting. He mostly scraped it off to clay, which is as hard as concrete when dry. We'll see.
