I have a few small ponds(less than acre), and mainly want to improve the Bream population, I was going to add cedar trees that have already been cut and dried, but how many is too many?

A rule of thumb is not to have more than 20% of the surface acerage in cover.

The amount depends on the reason for adding them. If it�s for protecting small fish then more is better until the population is up. If it�s for concentrating fish to catch then less is better. The answer Esshup provided is for fishing. For fishing a couple brush piles per acre is enough.

Ah. That makes sense.
I guesstimate that my own new pond will be maybe 35-40 percent flooded timber, with a lot of big, dense cedar trees standing in about six feet of water.

For small fish cover, the more branches that are in the water the better (as in tops of trees vs. the trunks). For the small fish protection, locate the cover close to spawning areas for the species that you want to protect.
