I think one issue is the desire to have the least amount of weight at the top of the tower. Thus, there is no typical, real good, American, over-engineering of the generator...meaning that it's made as light as possible. Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's one of the issues.


Looks like they need to investigate graphite composites and other space age polymers.
