Are there places where you can buy big bass - 4, 6, 8 pounders? I only see mostly stocking sizes that are up to 12".

They are normally so stinkin expensive it is more economical and fun to go out and catch your own out of a public lake.

I managed to hook up with a local landscaper/nursery farmer who only used his ponds for irrigation purposes and hence never fished. Both ponds were honey holes and he was okay with me taking about 30 fish out. Most were in the 2 pound range but I did get 3-4 that were in the 3-6 pound range.
I'd ask around your friends & family to see if someones got a pond you can fish...if not, like cameronb said, it'll get expensive.
