The photo below appeared on the local newspaper (local to where my pond property) as the "photo of the week." It depicts what is believed to be a Gopher Snake after having caught a fish (looks like a LMB to me). The fish was caught in a creek so it perhaps it had limited escape opportunities. Interesting photo though. I've snakes on our property before and one time watched one swim across the pond, it never occurred to me they might be fishing.

I gotta think about this a little bit. WV ramps were over by mid-May. Local mushroom season is dead for now. We've had catfish fry-ins at the Catmandoo Pond Relaxation Place (our front deck) on the last two Friday nights.

I have a big smoked red meat body part in the freezer that I got from ESSHUP last spring. It is waiting for a sampling and a great PB gettogether.

I'm thinking something like "tur-duck-in" -- the Cajun delicacy of a turkey, stuffed with a duck, that is rolled around a chicken, and then deep fried.

Lots of local people seem to be finding large timber rattlers wandering aimlessly in our hot dry weather.

Todd and I are trying to find an excuse, and a convenient time, to get the families together. With such a potential menu, maybe we can even attract our other close PB neighbors -- Sunil and family. All PB members would be welcome.

Just think -- timber rattler, naturally stuffed with very fresh fish, wrapped in thinly sliced ESSHUP venison ham!

In Catmandoo's world there is always a place for all of God's creatures (and their parts)...Deep/pan fried, smoked, pickled, boiled, cured, along side red potatos.....

I have to agree there Rex...If Ken fixes it, I would try it!

My favorite snack is Head Cheese Chips-N-Cheese, and you cant go wrong with adding some Corned Beef into the mix. A bit sticky tho. Licking your fingers is a must! Unless, of course, you were doing something else previously with your fingers.

More good things to eat:

JHAP, I think it might be a trout that the State stocked that the snake is eating. Snakes don't seem to be particular, and the GSF seem to be no match for them either! I believe it's either a catfish or bullhead in the 3rd pic.

Ken, just don't tell Todd what he's having until he's tasted it. I doubt that you could get him to touch it if he knew it was a snake.

Could be a trout Esshup, I just guessed at LMB.

My 15 year old takes some great pics. Google "deep fried cicadas". They are a delicacy!

Took this picture today at work. The snake was trying to eat a 12-14" CC but was having a hard time of it.

Crazy. I never thought much about a snake being a predator of fish but I guess they must take a few.

And no RAH, there is no way I Googling "deep fried cicadas."

I think that water snakes eat lots of small fish.

The water snakes at my rock pier, where I fish the most from, will eat shiners and fatheads all day long.

You can almost hand feed them. In fact, Todd is coming out later this month to try his hand, so to speak, at feeding the snakes.

Photos, we will want photos. On second thought forget photos we want video with sound recorded, just in case a teenage girl like scream emanates from Todd during this event.
