Bob......I read Field Notes in the new issue with great interest. Having been in the water and wastewater industry for 30+ years, I have seen the importance of how careful use of resources should be foremost in the minds of all of us. So many communities were building new facilites in the 90's and 00's that it seemed like everyone was going to have new plants and new taxes to go with them. Most jurisdictions cannot raise fees until a new facility is brought on line.
Many of the states that have been hardest by the housing crisis are also those that have giant new treatment plants....Arizona, Nevada, California, and Florida saw huge growth and now are hurt the most. Clean water has been a priority and now someone has to pay for these large plants. It will be interesting to see how communities deal with this ongoing.
He who controls the clean water in the future will control the population. This will become the new oil in the future.
I saw the animated move RANGO recently and even though it is a "funny" movie, it brings to light just this point. It's really scary when you consider the power that water yields.
