Has anybody heard or used the new feed? AquaMax LargeMouth, it's got a lower fat content due to the diet differences of LMB vs trout. (see links below)

3/4" pellet, so much for my little Aqua-Pro 25DF being able to automatically throw that one. LOL. I guess I'll have to hand feed this bag.

It says "Bass eat 1 meal at a time..." - I'm dubious of this. There's a paper on feeding regarding multiple feeds per day verses a single feed, I just read it, but it focused on bass, the objective was to look at additional feeding times per day and impact on additional growth. The synopsis was that 2 feeds per day was marginally worth the extra effort, but that 4 feeds per although producing more growth, wasn't marginally worth it. IMHO, watching them feed, my 1,000 bass feed all day long, over and over. If I put +1,000 of the Aquamax 500 in there for my 4-6" fingerlings, they eat them. If two hours later I put another handful in they eat them all too. At the end of the day, the LMB are swarming on my floating pond lights to look for bugs, if I throw a handful of 50-100 pellets it's all gone in 5 secs. I'd say they feed more than once per day. I've read that on a full stomach, they digest a meal in 18 hours (in the wild, which is obviously a different metabolic rate than pellet trained).

I always thought there was about 300 minnows per lb, but this suggests it's closer to 500 (~450). Interesting factoid too. Anythoughts?

Lots of posters use AM LMB feed and there are a number of posts about the subject. None of the major (common in use) fish feeders will work with LMB pellets. There are some special feeders that do work with LMB pellets. You may be confusing what a LMB needs (normal growth) with what it will readily eat (max growth). They are pigs, Those are very different concepts as one factors cost into the equation and the other does not. Its aquaculture vs. recreational feeding. In addition basal metabolism and growth vary by location and time of year (temp).

FWIW my HSB react just like the LMB you describe as to LMB pellets.

I can find those LMB pellet threads for you if you need them.

I only know of two feeders currently on the market that will disperse the LMB feed, and that's Sweeney. One directional, one non-directional. Texas Hunter has one in the works, but it's not on the market yet.

IIRC the Purina LMB food has been on the market for 2+ years?

Great discussions and learning here. Right now, my LMB are a little too puny (~6") to eat a pellet that size, so I'm looking at introducing this in late August-september 2012, when they my little beasts are looking to add that bigger weight, it seems like the Aquamax LMB does the trick to finish them up for my October 2012 harvest. I'm hoping for 1.5 lbs at that time.

One thing I did to start the process was cut the pellets in half and start feeding them early. That made a big difference for my HSB.

I'm not sure if AM-LMB is the miracle bass food everyone would dream of.. Plain and simple bass like fish to eat I think in time with genetic selection and careful breeding and extreme feeding programs we will see bass that love pellets more than natural forage, but as if now, if you take a bass and throw it in a pond where he can eat one fish weighing as much as 20 pellets, IMHO I think they will convert to natural eventually and maybe pellets as supplementary.. Just my opinion but I don't see anything negative with feeding lmb pellets
