All,

Work was recently completed on my 1/4 acre pond and I am trying to locate a fishery in the Dallas area. I have found Overton Fisheries in Buffalo but it is a two hour drive. If anyone knows of anything closer please let me know. I am currently looking for FHM but will obviously need other fish in the future. However, unless we get rain soon it looks like I'll have to be content with a large dust bowl.

You might want to check out Texoma Hatchery in Whitesboro, TX. They have an excellent reputation, and I believe they serve your area. Not only is the owner pretty knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to pond management, he is a great guy to know if you are doing anything with fish and ponds.

Good luck,
Ken

I don't think you will find anything appreciably closer. And, right now I wouldn't be stocking fish due to water temps.

I would wait until Spring.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

And if you want until spring, this drought may be less severe and you would not worry about having your small pond go dry.

I agree 100%. I was just hoping for rain so that I could get a good minnow population started and then in the spring I will definitely need more guidance. Thanks guys!

The pond was actually full before the drought hit but it had to be drained so they could finish building it...just my luck.

We can help with that. There are a bunch of people with great knowledge on here.

All of us are wishing for a rain and an end to this drought. I have never seen anything like it.

Is Tyler Fish Farm or Hatchery (they're in the resources guide) any closer?

Tyler Fish Farm is about 1 hour closer. Has anyone purchased from them before? I definitely want to focus on quality of fish rather than location or price. I think price will always be pretty close but quality is where I need to focus my efforts. That being said, are there quality issues to consider when purchasing FHM?

Still praying for rain. Had scattered storms yesterday and I got a few droplets of water on my shirt but that's not going to fill a pond.

I'm going to subscribe soon so that I can have all of these resources in front of me. This forum is great and imagine the magazine is just as good.

All 3 are very reputable places. I have a friend that is about an hour East of Dallas that uses Tyler. But, I wouldn't worry about the quality of fish or the service that you'll get from any of them. A number of people here have used those 3 places. George1 uses Overtons, Bob Lusk uses Texoma (He ought to, he owns it. grin )
