Interestingly, Shakespeare makes a series of very inexpensive fiberglass rods that are actually better than old style cane poles. My favorite is the Durango series. I have a couple of the 13' rods. They collapse down to about 4-foot. These sell for $5-$6.

There is also the WonderPole telescoping series. They range from about 8-foot to about 20-foot. I believe they start at about $7.

They are setup like cane poles. No place for a reel, but it does have a place to wind the line when the pole is telescoped to its shortest length.
