Hello everyone, I have a 3/4 acre pond and a shaded 1/4 acre "tank". I also am one of 3 owners on a 20+ acre soil conservation lake. I will be seeking input on issues related to sharing a lake and general pond management.
I am glad that ya'll are here.

Thanks for the welcoming responses. I am overloaded with a variety of issues regarding all the bodies of water I manage.
I took over the helm of family property that has several bodies of water on it.
1. I have a beautiful 1/4 acre tank full of sunfish/perch[I call them]
The pond is a major water source for wildlife and even the wild hogs seem to avoid wallowing in it so the water is very clean/clear.
2. I have a deep 3/4 or so acre pond that is always muddy and is absolutely full of small stunted "mud cats" and some sunfish of poor quality[small]
I am planning on draining this pond and starting channel cat stocking.
3. The 20+ acre lake I am on was semi-private until a guy bought land on it and is now allowing guests to fish it with boats. He has other properties so is rarely there.
In the last two years hydrilla exploded in this lake.
Anyway, no need to comment on this thread, but I will be seeking help and discussions on all of these topics.
Thanks again for the nice welcome.

Mizu, welcome to Pond Boss.

BTW, we have been kinda housebroke around here and call tanks by the name of ponds.

Perch are really a fish that lives up North. Here they are called by the correct name like Bluegill, Red Eared Sunfish, Green Sunfish, etc.

BTW, housebreaking on some of us has taken quite awhile and hasn't been 100% successful.

2 questions:

1. What part of Texas are you from?
2. How do you keep hogs out of the water? Does it have steep banks or is it pretty deep?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Dave, I noticed in my research that "tank" was on the way out. As a 6 year old I remember thinking that was a misleading name.
This place is in a very rural area north of Groesbeck, TX.

I have no idea why hogs avoid the small pond. It is hidden in trees and they wallow on the edges very lightly. They are practically destroying the banks of the 20 acre lake although shooting pressure buffers it some.
I study and monitor the hogs and wildlife at all times as the place is partially in wildlife management status with the state.
My guess is that they like more sun exposure so that the mud cakes quicker on the skin. This pond is surrounded by trees. I is only 3 feet deep at one point and is average 1.5-2 feet I guess. It is a stunning little pond full of life. The shade allows it to resist drying up.

Heck, to me they are still tanks except when I'm here.
