I have a 1 acre pond that was getting overrun by water lilies a couple of years ago. I purchased a Jenson Lake Mower and started cutting the lilies each year for weed control. The Jenson Lake mower can be found on www.lakemower.com and watch a demo of its operation.I used it for about 2 years. It did do the job of cutting the lilies easily but the water lilies seem to regrow rapidly, and I was cutting about twice a month to keep clear for boating and fishing.In the past couple of years I turn to a chemical control of the lilies. This allowed me to spray about 2 times a year for control of the lilies and eventually will kill the root for a better control. I was wondering if anyone in this forum would be in need of the cutter or would know of a market were I can sell the unit.It is a good cutter for manual harvesting of aquatic plants but the water lilies seemed somewhat aggressive. I see today Jansen is selling unit for about $3000. I realize I will not get $3000 even though it was not used much, but maybe someone else could use the cutter for a better application.I also have the extension that allows you to go down to a depth of almost 7 feet.Any Ideas or suggestions. I thought of Ebay but never seen a weed cutter like that sold, but who knows maybe I should give that a try.

Hey, Yuengling, welcome to Pond Boss! Glad you're here. Given the holiday weekend, folks may be a little slow to respond as most of are probably out enjoying a day or two off and spending it on their ponds. Hang tight and someone will chime in with thoughts. How about some pics of your place?

Think about your choices. Spraying leaves the nutrients from the plants in the water to be used by more or different plants. Cutting them and taking them out removes the nutrients and lessens future plant growth. If you have to keep spraying the plants then you need to check what you are using. It should kill them out so you don't have to keep spraying.

That is a very good product in any event.

I was under the impression that if the lilies were cut frequently enough, they'd use up all their reserves trying to put up new leaves and finally die.

The forum here does not have a used /new item sell it feature. I would try ebay with a minimum bid, buy it now or best offer option. If you do put it on ebay there are those here thaT would be interested if they knew about the item. Bidding went well on the Forum for a Jensen Weed Cutter that was donated for the Jesse West Fisheries Education Foundation at So. Dakata State Univ.

I would be interested in your mower if it's still available.
Our lake association simply ignores the weed problem on our side of the lake and I feel the need to take some control. Perhaps you can private message me or just email me.

I too am looking for a Jensen mower. Have tried the Aquacide to control common pond weed with limited results. Manual pulling works but getting too old for that and want more open areas to fish.

Many of our lily pad cutting customers report that theirs don't continue to come back after repeated mowing. It sounds as if the trick is to not allow them to reach the surface, which denies them the opportunity to store enough food to survive the winter. It may not be effective on all species, but may be worth a try before you get rid of the machine. If it works, it will save you both money and work in the future.

I would suggest focusing on as large an area as you can reasonably maintain between now and the end of the summer, and see what the results are come spring. If it turns out good, move on to the next area. If not, give us a call.
