Donnie Castle Lunker D Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 61 London, Ky	Went out to the pond this afternoon to rake some of the algae out off the banks and saw fry swimming around. What could have spawned this time of the year? I wasnt expecting to see this til April. I wanted to get the algae off the banks and spread some hydrated lime down before they started spawning. Is still ok to spread the lime, don't want to kill no eggs.

Donnie Castle Lunker D Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 61 London, Ky	They are around 1/2" maybe a little smaller. I thought that hydrated lime was what most pond owners used, if not what should I use? I really dont have a lot, just want to get rid of whats already there without using chemicals.

ewest Moderator Hall of Fame 2014 Lunker E Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 22,037 Likes: 483 Miss.	For adding alkalinity use ag lime or pelleted lime. That will not hurt the fish. Hydrated lime in small amounts can kill FA in small areas but if you do more area or put it near fish it can kill them.
