Keep an eye on cattails. They can get out of control and too abundant rather quickly. Keep them contained to a specific area or length of shoreling. aI prefer water iris to cattails - shorter, slower growing, shallower, less fodder decay in the fall-winter.

I am on your wife's side - why logs? They will only benefit anglers and where can fish go in a small pond as yours? It probably would be a whole lot easier to find them that catch them in just 3/4 ac.
