I have schools of fry swimming everywhere. I'm trying to figure out what they are. My fear is crappie. I'm going to try to catch one later, but I can see them pretty good from shore.

I wonder how old the fry in that picture is? The ones I'm seeing are the same shape as a minnow but are transparent looking with some verticle striping.

Horizontal striping would make me think LMB and not crappie... LMB often school together in lose school near the surface and are often quite noticeable. Crappie fry are not as noticeable. I'd guess the crappie in the above photo is at least a couple months old.

Sounds like a good guess to me... Since he mentioned some vertical striping as opposed to a horizontal stripe. Plus I would believe it's too early in the season up in Wisc for young bass to be cruising around yet.

Yes, I have YP. I thouhgt they spawn later than crappie and LB.

Your YP should have spawned already. Maybe a month or so ago. It would be really late if they had not spawned yet. They start spawning when water temp's hit the low to mid 40's.

+1 on the YUM! Parts north into Canada, should have had, or are having YP spawns. In a couple weeks, it would be late for Canada. Breath a sigh of relief  Pretty sure they are just YP. Post a pic when you get one.

Considering WI latitude and time of year, the guesses for YP are very likely correct. Picture?
