Hey everyone,
Looking for some help on water temp. I am going through a drought here and lost about 8 foot of water from my pond. I drilled a well to refill. My question is how much can I vary my water temp. The water is around 78 deg. the water from the well is around 68 deg. How low should I let the water temp get before shutting it off and letting it catch up. My pond is bass and bluegill filled!!

Unless you're pumping large amounts of water into a very small pond, the temperature change should be gradual enough so as to not cause any issues.

I'm watching it. Pump has been on for 3 days and water temp has dropped only 3 degrees I just wasn't sure and wouldn't want to have a fish kill. Thanks!

I think you will be OK, water changes that gradual will not be lethal. If anything, cooler water may actually increase fish activity. A very heavy t-storm dropping a couple inches of rain will often change water temps quite rapidly and fish generally handle it OK. The problem most often happens during summer when thermoclines have established and you get a turn over.

CJ, how fast will the well water absorb O2 from the air? If the water isn't bounced around before it enters the pond will low O2 and the other gasses that are in the well water affect the water quality in the pond?

It'd help to know the size of the existing pond, and the GPH of the well water going into the pond.

The pond is about 3/4 acre. I have a cap on the pipe with holes drilled in it shooting water into the pond like a fountain. Trying to oxygenate as much as possible.

Smallwater, that will outgass the well water and add O2 to it, you are fine doing that. Like CJ said, you will most likely see a greater temp change from a heavy rainstorm or a prolonged cold front than from the water that you are pumping into the pond.

Sounds like a fine way to make sure enough DO is present in the well water before adding it...
