Pond Boss Forums MANAGING AN EXISTING POND Feeding How many Feeders for a 9 acre "L" shaped pond?

I have heard mixed reviews on getting and keeping feed trained / purchased largemouth on bass chow feed that is also relatively expensive too. From those that feed their largemouth or don't anymore what can you tell me?

If I don't feed the largemouth and concentrate back then on feeding just my bluegill, how many feeders is best for my new lake. Is 2 feeders adequate for 9 acre pond or should I have 3 feeders as a minimum (basically 1 feeder per every 3 acres). I will be feeding approx. 9 months per year with water temps. above 60 degrees. What is the best feed with the highest protein for feeding my bluegill besides Aquamax?

Dave not sure you know but at the last PondBoss meeting during the "pro" session we discussed this matter. There is supposed to be an email train with those interested in this study of feed trained bass.

To answer your questiosn I suggest at least 3 feeders if you have quite a bit of shoreline. You may also try a Texas hunter Feeder than can feed up to 7.5 mm feed and we are working to get a 9.5 mm feed to work. You can then toss by hand the aquamax bass pellets as a supplement to these smaller pellets.

Not just feed trained LMB but fish on supplemental feed from ponds/small waters. See next PB issue. Still in the very early stages.

Dave, I think the figure is roughly 1 feeder per 3 acres. If you are feeding BG, Purina Game Fish Chow will work. It's cheaper than AquaMax. There are other feeds out there, and different parts of the country might have different brands. Look for one that is for carnivorous fish, and is fish meal based, not a food that is for omnivores.
