Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations Our house got flooded today.

All this time living on a 300 acre watershed right on the edge of a pond I have been worried about possibility of getting flooded. Well it finally happened today. No not by the pond but by the Maytag. Apparently the washing machine malfunctioned and ran water for 4 hours before my son discovered it this morning. our entire lower floor had about 2 to 3 inches of water in it. Nothing to cry about compared to the folks along the Mississippi but its still something I didn't need right now.

Sorry to hear. I've heard that going with braided steel water hoses to the washers are the only way to go.

RT, been there, done that. (Why is this part of the house warm and humid??? ) I went with the braided stainless hoses, but when reading the fine print it says (change yearly 1 year guarantee)

We have braided hose on the washer as well. Another thing we do, most especially when we travel, but between washings when we think of it, is to turn off the faucets between washings.

We also have a pan under the water heater with a hose running outside in case the heater leaks, which it did once, or the pressure relief gives way. You can buy water heater overflow pans where you buy water heaters.

RT sorry about the mess. We had a hot water heater do that. Thank goodness it only went on the tile floor (not the wood floors). Now have a pan under it.

It has to be something internal to the washer. I can't say it hasn't been warning us. About 2 months ago we had a small leak that appeared to come from inside the washer. I was going to investigate then but I forgot and my wife continued to wash and it never did it again until about 2 weeks ago. Then it only happened once. Yesterday it must have let go. The darn thing is we just had our water heater replaced a week ago which was 14 years old just to be on the safe side before it failed and did this. Everthing appears to be ok the water did not get high enough to wet and swell the interior doors. We got a few base boards and cabinets with water stain but we are very lucky. The good thing is our house has concrete floors and rustic barn wood interior. The stains just add more character.

Luck would have it Rockytopper that in my past life I was a Maytag repairman in my fathers business for 15 years. I would be happy to help guide you in the repair. Don't throw it away because of the big mess it made. We can fix it rest assured.

Probably an internal hose split or came off during the fill cycle. It kept filling because it never acheived enough water pressure to stop the fill. If it is a top loader 10 years old or older, the front comes off with two screws. You can access almost anything that it might be from there. You can call me if you want. Oh, and take Sunils advice... Replace the fill hoses with the stainless steel braid type. Good luck.

Forgive me if you are speaking tongue-in-cheek Rockytopper but NOT good fish habitat. Oil in the transmission will be displaced through a vent. Only way to evacuate would involve complete disassembly.

Get a nice front loader this time and don't forget the stainless braid hoses.
