Still very new here and learning--my question today is what is the difference between a stunted LMB (or any species) and just a juvenile healthy growing LMB on it's way to a trophy size? How can I tell a fish is stunted? Is it the ratio of smaller sized fish being caught that tells me this or is there physical characteristics of the fish itself?

One of the ways is if the head looks too large for the body. That means that in the past he weighed more, but now he is losing or has lost weight. Best to cull him to make room for a LMB that is increasing in weight (has a head that doesn't look too large for his body)...

What rmedgar said is probably the easiest way to tell. The next time you catch a few bass look at them study them keep records of the weight and length. There's a relative weight chart on here somewhere it tells you if your bass are the right weight for their length. If I find it ill send it to you.
Also you ask about juvenile fish your yearling bass tend to stay together for the first year so if their small and cruising the bank together their probably yearlings.

Wow, thanks for the pointer to the archived threads. Anxious to read more. I'm already thinking of a plan of attack for a log book and tagging system. Saw a link to tags on here and someone's spreadsheet for their logging system. Great stuff!
There are BG already in the pond (that may be reducing in numbers) and of course the BC population which we fish hard and eat alot of, and I would like to get some BT from Rex to help with the muck and FA and as forage for the LMB. I'd like to hear a few opinions on this before I move ahead. I was planning on caling Rex this afternoon actually to talk about a purchase.
