I've been working on the yard, cleaning up the winter debris. Of course that means walking by the pond to the burn pit, with brush and sticks. This year I noticed some toad eggs in the water and today saw the creatures.

There were toads every three feet around the pond, with a partner riding on her back. For the last few years it was bull frogs, but now it's toads. I hope the trout will keep up with the fry once they start hatching.

Also saw my first PS today. The pond froze soild this winter and there was some winter kill, so I was waiting to see if any survived. I did not expect to see any because the pond was frozen soild and only three feet deep, for at least four months.

PS are extremely winter kill tough... I am sure a good number of them made it through.

Just saw a small school of about six to eight PSs about 2" long, that were fry last year. They are some tough fish.

scruffy, 2 years ago I had about 400' of shoreline that was completely covered out about 18" by toad tadpoles. In less than 3 weeks they were 95% gone, but the fish were really fat! Both BG and LMB had a feast.

Good to hear scruffy, PS's are great little fish up here in the north.

Are BGs as tough as PSs? Heading out to a local hot spot to capture some giants for the pond next week. I only hope they are hungry and I can get the canoe in. It's located in the woods with no access roads close by.

I doubt they're as tough as PS's, but since your getting them locally it's worth a shot, maybe they're also interbred with PS's.
