My mother just turned 73. She works full time at Gerber (baby food company) on the help lines, coaching young mothers on infant care. She is well qualified for that, because she raised a big family. About seven weeks ago, she was having a difficult time breathing, not constantly, but it got heavy at times. She went in on the onset to get checked out, and they said she had a mild case of pneumonia, and proceeded to treat her for that. Well... while being treated, it just got worse, and worse and worse. So last Friday, they had her in for more tests... Mind you, seven weeks has already passed since the original diagnosis and start of treatment. Today, they confirmed that my Mother has lung cancer, and not pneumonia She is at the cancer center right now to get tested for liver cancer also. It makes me mad. Another mis diagnosis. More valuable time wasted. Cancer dont wait for you to figure out what it is. It is a hideous alien that invades your body, just to destroy it. The same thing happened to my dog Luna. Said it was a bee sting, then a thorn or foreign object causing the bump. They said it was nothing to worry about. About the same time frame passed before they figured out what it was, but by then, it was too late. I just buried Luna, my best friend, at a young age of seven this past weekend. And that was hard. I am definitely not willing to do that with my TRUE BEST FRIEND, My Mother. So, if you will, say a prayer for my Mom, when you get a chance. Thanks

JKB, your mother will definitely be in our prayers. Mind sharing her first name with us? Like Travis, I lost my mother to cancer too. She was only 43. I was very close to her, spoke with her everyday, and am blessed with many of her qualities. My son was 10 months old when she passed. A week ago, cancer took my grandmother as well. I had grown close to her as well, having lunch with her nearly everyday. So needless to say, the C word hits home for me and while I am not in your current situation, I certainly understand the pain, frustration, and helplessness you are feeling. I believe in prayer. I believe in miracles. I believe through prayer and modern technology, your mom will someday soon be able to call herself a Survivor. God bless you and your family JKB. Prayers begin tonight.

My Mom died 5 years ago from lung cancer. Never smoked a day in her life.
Prayers for you and her.

My Mothers name is Adele, and like all Mothers, She is Great! I really feel for all that lost someone to Cancer. I support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society because I lost one of my mentors to Leukemia. He was a Great Friend! His name is Albert. Smiles and thanks to Al I should have listened to you a bit better. DD1, My Mother never smoked a day in her life. Smoking is not the only thing that causes lung cancer. The latest update I have is that the doc's will take two days and dry her lungs out. (Tumor is causing the fluid build up) Then a couple weeks of in house Chemotherapy. She is at a really good place in Grand Rapids, MI. No word on the liver tests, but I should know something later today. Valuable time was wasted. Cancer waits for no one!

We'll be thinking of you, JKB.
I understand your frustration with these medical professionals, but try to temper it with the fact that you do need these people. With your mother's care in the hands of people, those people can do extra things that might make a difference, and the genesis of extra effort might simply be a positive attitude from those same people.
Let us know if you need anything.

My mother never smoke or drank a day in her life either. I can also sympathize with the cancer not waiting for anyone. I recall my mother mentioning to me that she found a little lump under her armpit. She made light of it, so I did as well. A year later and she’s gone.

Thank you all for your prayers and support. I really appreciate it.
Liver tests confirmed, Stage Four Liver Cancer, plus cancer of the Lymph-nodes, and one lung has cancer.
My Mom was shot over to Spectrum Health, and is in Cardiac Care, because, when they drained her lungs today, they shot her full of morphine, and that caused some problems.
Not looking good at all.
Thanks All... Unless a Miracle happens...

Continued prayers JKB. Spend as much time with her as possible. Exchange memories and fun times. Just in case God chooses to bring her Home before you're ready for her to go. Nothing prepares you, but know there are people thinking about Adele and her loving family. God bless.

Mom came home from the hospital last night, after almost three weeks.
The Doc's had a heck of a time getting the fluid in her lungs under control, but they did it. Thanks hospital staff!
Her first round of Chemotherapy was a week ago, and that really drained all of her physical strength. She can't walk and gets totally exhausted just getting into a wheelchair.
Other than the fact that She is in a wheelchair or bed for now, you would never know anything was wrong. She is in excellent spirits and very active within her limitations.
Next project is to make my parents house wheelchair friendly, and accessible.
Anyway, Things look pretty good for now.
Thank You for all of your prayers and support.
I really appreciate everyone of you!
