Ken, you going to be coming across on I-80 and then scooting down I-57 in Illinois? I'll be taking 80/94 to 80 to 57 Wed morning myself.
If looking for a place to stay for the night, I'd look for a place either East of Portage, IN or I'd wait until I was on I-57. That is unless you know of a good place to stay between those areas. There are a number of pretty rough areas along the highway between those 2 points.
Scott -- it is always a toss-up whether we take I-64 or I-70. For this trip, I-80 is too far north. This time I think we'll take I-70 across to St. Louis. It always seems to be faster going around places like Columbus, Dayton, and Indianapolis, as compared to going through/around Huntington, Lexington, and Louisville. The difference in the routes from our place to St. Louis via either route is less than about 15 miles. Tomorrow night, we figure we'll make it past Indianapolis, but not as far as St. Louis. We've made the trek a lot of times, and have had pretty good luck with chain motels along I-70.
