One day I passed by a headless barred owl standing by the road. I backed up to see how he was still standing up, and saw his head was not missing, but upside down. Apparently, he flew into a power line and it made his vision inverted. Amazing neck, being able to invert and twist it around like that. I brought him home and rehabbed him in my shop. Every day, his head straighted up a little, and in about 10 days it was perfect. He ate chicken liver greedily from my hand and got real healthy. When I released him, he had no problems flying. His acidic droppings left little smoking divots in my concrete shop floor, and still remind me of him. Watch out for those wires, Hootie!
