Zep, I had never thought of a cattle guard. For their size, hogs have small feet.
If you could be sure that your water level is a constant, it ought to work. Or, I guess you could just build it as part of the dock.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

you could just build it as part of the dock. That's what I was thinking...just build the last few feet of your gangway in a cattle guard style. I don't think them hogs would like that. 
Fishing has never been about the fish....
