Golden trout are simply Rainbow Trout with a genetic defect that changed the color....similar to an Albino catfish.
The hatcheries breed the goldens and get more, but they also get normal colored rainbows if the spawns also. Still, the goldens, sometimes called Palomino Trout are actually Rainbow trout and not a seperate species.
