Some years back we were building log homes One log home was hidden in a nice wooded lot & was swarmed by woodpeckers! It was almost funny, till we had to repair & replace wood that it would destroy. A few well placed nails flying from a pnuematic nailer would chase them off, then they would return. There were no insects in the new material, we figured it was the fresh smell of wood that attracted them. we had owl decoys that we dangled from tree branches high up close to the peak of the house. we used masons string & the breeze would move the decoy, did the trick.
