I'm amazed that my pond continues to bloom even in these cold times in Texas. Water could not be over 40F. Apparently, temp is not a major factor in pea soup production.
There are lots of types of plankton and they bloom at different times. Temp does play a big part it just depends on the type plankton. We often get a winter bloom when we get a warming trend after a real cold snap but it�s not pea soup.

Let me try a pic here. It's not the peak of the bloom, but some aftermath. All you need is a ham bone.
Can you give details on the pic ? That almost looks like clay turbidity mixed with a late season bloom.
It has been droughty. At full pool the water gets over that pier on way to spillway (just to the left of pic). I've always thought I had something in suspension. May be clay. The bloom peaked last week. Thanks for the input.

Check out the free articles I rewrote from Bob's Word Docs to html for the website. I could have sworn I retyped an article by Lusk going A to Z on turbidity - causes and solutions. IIRC if you have turbidity it's likely caused by suspended clay particles as you have an ionic imbalance in your water. Either Alum or Gypsom will bind with those particles causing them to become heavier and sink to the bottom, improving your visibility. I hope I have that somewhat correct.
