ok im making a very small 12 by 20 pond with a stream that goes around it and a raised 4 by 10 pond which on one side will have a stream that feeds into the main pond and on the other a nice water fall i want trout(brook rainbow and golden) FHM and was wondering what other fish to put in there that give a good fight

my main goals for the pond is to have a nice pond were i can feed fish and catch fish when i want to

You might could look into Hybrid Striped Bass. HSB do not spawn,they are great fighters and they take artifical fish food. They can reach up to ten pounds in a pond and make great table fare.

i would stick with trout, and by the sounds of it they may even be able to breed in there, Fallfish could live in there too they fight harder than many fish, get big(2 pounds+) but are considered junk by many.

What is the water source for this pond/stream? Will it be cold enough for trout? Having built a couple of lined stream/ponds, they are very fun for the family. Not sure just how much biomass you will be able to support in such a small BOW without some serious effort... If you can keep the water cool enough, I'd stick with trout. I doubt much of anything else will do well if the water stays cold enough for trout anyways...

If it's the same BOW that he talked about in a different thread, the stream is coming from another pool - recirc system.

Better have one heck of a cooling system them or trout will not be an option. A cooling system of that size is not cheap.

i live in new york long island to be more precise so it should remain cool but if it doesnt then i will buy a cooling system but is it posible to get to cool for trout?

Anything is possible, it all depends on how much $ you want to throw at it. I have no idea what a water chiller would cost, nor how much energy per month it would consume.

If your water table is not too deep you could drill a shallow well and supply cold water to your pond during warm weather.
Cecil Baird has grow some huge trout in Indiana by supplying well water to keep his pond cool.

my pond will be supplied by the water table because were i live you only have to like 6 feet to reach the water table

Take what I have to say as coming from someone that has a ground water pond. What the ground gives (in the form of water) the ground can also take away. My pond is 60" below full pool because of fluctuating ground water levels. In taking temp readings this year, I am seeing no temp increase in the lower water levels of the pond like previous years, probably due to the low ground water levels. In the spring of the year I can dig 3' and hit water.....
