My brother has about a 5 acre lake in southwest Mississippi and 2 years ago he put 400 of the dark species in, they were 4-6 inches at the time of stocking. Before the bashing begins, I know that he shouldnt have put them in there but he knew better and its his place. The pond has a ton of fish life in it and the fishing is always good for bream, cats, and bass. No one has tried to catch any sac-au-lait or even accidently caught one. Lake is a dammend off ravine taht in the middle is 20-25 feet deep and most the trees were cut off at 10 - 15 feet to leave structure under the surface. First I was wondering on the size that these fish may be after 2 years, are they large enough to fish for/eat? My plan is to try and catch as many of them as I can get out and hope for the best. Also, I have heard that the end of Feb is when they spawn and can be caught around structure. Anyone got any info for me, thanks.

Your initial stocker fish could very well be over 12". Maybe you'll be lucky and the pond won't be conducive to them spawning...

If they were stocked last spring or earlier, and were 4" long, they are plenty big enough to eat by now. I'm enjoying my crappie. They're my most reliable fish this time of year. I don't catch many, but I enjoy every one.

I would think those original stockers might have pulled off a spawn or two by now.
