The temps are going to be in the low 20's here in pa and they want a sleet rain event.... I dont get it. 1inch of Ice starting tonight. I would rather have 2ft of snow!

Now, they are saying that this snow event may be HISTORIC for our area. I doubt it!
Maybe lower west MI will get slammed!
But, you guys in IN and OH should take precautions! Tom Skilling of WGN says it may be within the top five storms of all time since records were kept for Chicago. This storm is projected to cover 60 percent of the country eventually. That's a a big storm. Reminds me of the blizzard of 78'. I shipped a frozen fish today UPS to a customer in Niles, Michigan. I called him and asked him if maybe we should wait until next week due to the storm. We wouldn't want it to sit around somewhere and thaw out if the roads became impassable. He just laughed and said go ahead and send it and at first thought I was putting him on. I may have the last laugh with his money and he has a spoiled fish.

They are predicting 12-18 inches of snow for N.E. Oklahoma tonight and -9 degrees on Thursday. I know that is not that cold to some but us Okies are not too used to this weather.

They are predicting 12-18 inches of snow for N.E. Oklahoma tonight and -9 degrees on Thursday. I know that is not that cold to some but us Okies are not too used to this weather. Being cold is one thing, but the windchill is the nasty part of cold. The latest computer model from the local weather station put's us at 12.4". Just a bit north of here it is drastically reduced. I hope it blows south of here! The model puts Grand Rapids at 18". I like the way he said "we toned it down a bit"  South of GR, it looks bleak. To be on the safe side, I better go fill up the tractor in the morning. 12" will be a long day of pushing and piling up snow.

Bought a new 12KW generator yesterday and got it all set up and ready to go. My kids suggested I electrify it to deter any new thief...I love their creative thinking and just might do it!
We put the hot end of a 120v wire inside an old outdoor soda machine at a friends garage to stop a kid the could reach inside the drop shoot and grab cans.....he never did it again after getting lit up! I even got to watch him dance with his arm stuck in the machine.....Now THAT'S entertainment!

I just made sure the snowblower will fire up and went into town and picked up almost 5 gallons of fresh gasoline and more 2 cycle oil to mix with it. My neighbor usually plows my driveway with a mower/snow blade but this may be just too much for him.  The last time we got about 15 inches and drifting my drive wasn't easily found with 7 feet of snow drifted over it!

I think they said it may be as low as -20 or more. That is just crazy. Plus on top of that, it was almost 80 on Saturday.

The forecast I'm seeing is 10 to 18 inches. And it's really blowing out there! Last I heard the forecast for Chicago was 24 +! A new all time record if that happens!

We have drifts between 5 and 6 feet deep. Snow is OK, blowing snow sucks and freezing rain and ice are unacceptable.

It was pretty much horrible here today. 49 degrees and overcast with melting snow everywhere from our last accumulation. It was one of those ugly winter days that just gets you down in the dumps. Wish we had some new snow coming. Some guys get all the luck, eh, Ken?!

B'ski news says your going to get several feet of snow over the next day. What say you ? it all depends... Once the blizzard mass that is moving quickly across the midwest is out of here, we are predicting it will leave varying amounts, from 15" - 21". Then, the wind shifts to directly out of the north and let me tell ya...it is already honkin'. When it blows that hard directly from north to south across the big pond, the land just south gets the infamous "lake effect snow". Usually that wind is blowing toward the east and southeast, burying Indiana and Michigan. If it comes straight down from the north, southern Cook County (Chicago and south) get blasted, too. We have 30 - 40 mph constant winds right now, with gusts up to 50. It's supposed to hold all the way thru tomorrow afternoon. It is so cold that the snow is freezing as light and fluffy, not wet and heavy. We're gonna yield over 12" of snow per inch of rain. Combine this with the wind and we have the world's biggest snow globe. Then take a look at the big ice blue blob that starts in Nebraska and ends in Ohio. Whoa.

I'm really feeling left out.
I checked my hometown news in the Duluth News Tribune, and it said that North Dakota west of Fargo, and the part of Minnesota where Dwight lives, were closed due to weather. My older son and his wife live near Oklahoma City, and it is even closed.
We were at least supposed to get a really bad ice storm tonight. It's been canceled! It didn't get anywhere near as warm on our side of the mountain as it did on Todd's side, but it is now 33 degrees. They say it will just keep getting warmer overnight. At least we are supposed to get about an inch of rain on top of the 10-or-so inches of snow that is on the ground. So, at a minimum, we have a chance of a reasonable flood.

speaking of blizzard, they just explained on TV...
meteorologically speaking, a sustained wind of 35 mph + 1/4 mile or less visbility due to blowing snow = blizzard

When I picked my wife up from work around 3pm CST, we had 1/4" of ice and 4+ inches of sleet...the snow and blizzard conditions are supposed to hit later tonight.
B'ski, our local Meteorologist confirmed what your's had said in what is considered a blizzard and added the 35+ mph winds had to be sustained for at least 3 hours.
