Hey yall...I'm getting a new truck in Feb. Current truck is a bi-fuel F150-4wd-10k tow pkg. I have no problems with another Ford but I'm all ears for any suggestions. Only musts are 4wd-5k min tow and better mileage than the 14 im getting now.

If you don't mind buying used, be patient and see how gas prices go. If we see the bad news that some prognosticators are predicting about gas prices (and mid-east turmoil continues), we might see a rise toward $4 per gallon. If it plays out the same way it did the last time they shot that high, there will be another shake out of gas pigs and used trucks will be in high supply. I was looking for a truck about that time during the last crunch and the "suddenly available" inventory of big v-8's was amazing....and priced right.

Thanks good point...I have no problem with 4. gas if my initial investment savings will offset it, plus I only use the truck for hauling the boat..local trips to Lowes...TSC.. and such. For any long trips I kipe my wifes Infinti G37s...sweet:)

Agreed, just 6 months ago bought a 07 tundra, very low miles, for less than 1/2 new. Will never buy a new vehicle again. By the way, love the tundra.

Which engine you got and approx mpg?

If you're thinking about a diesel, all the 2011's from the big 3 use urea injection to lower the NOX levels. That adds to the cost per mile.

I've always admired diesel torque and longevity but never been a fan of the sound or smell....maybe the newer ones aren't so bad? Isn't urea latin for urine?

You're correct. The older ones were noisier and smellier, but for towing they can't be beat. The new ones are a LOT quieter, some brands quieter than others (Chevy is quieter than Dodge). You have the idea, but I don't think using that tank for a recepticle would help things any. The computer might not like it.

Dad has had a diesel car or truck since 1973, my first one was a 1986 6.2 Suburban.

The last Fuel spike was when I bought my F-250 4x4 super crew with the 6.8L V-10.

Nearly as much torque as the diesel and $100 cheaper per oil change. I love the truck and bought it mainly for use as a tractor at our land to pull a 14' JD disc harrow, trees, stumps, etc. Pulls the disc churning 14" deep in rocky soil with no problem...gas mileage sucks at 13.8mpg on the highway and 8.9mpg in the city. Tons of room in the back seat and a nice long distance ride if you put some weight in it. At least the ride with the Lariat pkg is nice.

Great truck. It's got torque to spare.

As others have pointed out, wait for the summer. Things are going nuts in North Africa/Southwest Asia right now and gasoline prices are already high for this time of year, $4.50 gas is very possible around June/July.

As for vehicles, I can't offer you any insight because I don't drive a pickup or ever tow. I have a 4x4 Nissan Xterra, it's served me well, gets me in and out of little backcountry fishing places and down snowy dirt roads.

Tundra or Titan, I bought Toyota though as my local Toyota dealer has a vehicle for life program. As long as you have all service work done on time and at the dealer(yes, it's a bit more expensive at the dealer), they will cover all repair costs for as long as you own the vehicle.So, even if you truck is 15 years old with 200,000 miles on it, they pay for it... Nice insurance policy if you keep your vehicles for a long long time like I do. No American made dealers out there are willing to do that... They'd go broke! Toyota can get away with that though.

The Tundra and Titan are American made and great trucks, so is my 1999 Ford Ranger with 196000 miles.

I usually recommend buying the dealership, not the vehicle. Lots of sorry ones out there, and a good one can be worth a lot. Almost all of the new model trucks will have similar reliability and mileage comes down to what you want to do with it. They try to match each others power and mileage. I like the new Fords, but never buy a first year anything. Let someone else be a guinea pig. I also try not to buy new since the second that truck leaves the lot it takes a huge hit. Training auto sales management for the past three years showed me it was pretty easy to find an almost new truck, like a 1 year old less than 10k miles. Kind of funny that my '89 F250 diesel gets 18mpg with a fuel leak and the guy down the street with a '94 F250 diesel turbo idi with open exhaust gets 23mpg and they still cannot beat it, more POWER I guess.

Rex, that's because Ford runs so much oil in their diesels. IIRC 14 qts??

You can save some $$ by doing it yourself although you DO get dirtier if the oil gets on you. Dang carbon.....

$4.50? I'd better get the tanks filled as soon as they switch to summer fuel then! That'll kill the farmers if it stays that high until harvest time.

I should have said, Japanese designed... Every once in a while you find a diamond in a pile of coal. But I haven't seen many found lately when it comes to GM, Dodge or Ford. Between myself, family and friends, we're some unlucky people when it comes to American DESIGNED trucks.

I am a fan of Toyota after running two small trucks over 200K (small 2WD and Tacoma 4WD). However, I will probably buy a Ford next because I need a truck that can carry a load. My brother owns a construction company and can't use the Toyota trucks due to their inability to handle the weight. I will never buy another GM anything. Had one of their 80's trucks that they would not stand behind. Put in a rebuilt transmission when the original broke at 200 miles! The 350 engine kept blowing intake-manifold gaskets. I had the truck for 18 years, but it had low milage due to the amount of time I spent fixing it. "Longest lasting trucks in the garage".

FFF, a buddy e-mailed it to me a year or so ago. I don't know where he got it.

I bought a 2010 Tundra last year. It averages about 14 mpg when considering town and hiway usage. I won't buy another one. When I try to use it for country type stuff, it just doesn't compare to my old Ford. Certainly not a work truck and, at the price, I need a pickup for dual usage.

I have several brush marks where a twig scraped the paint off. Like the CEO of Toyota told the Congressional Committee "We have grown too fast.".

I am glad to hear the Tundra is American made, I was unaware of that.
I am in the transportation business and in my experience Toyota is
second to none as far as dependability.
