She's developed a habit of coming over to me and staring at me in a sitting position when I'm the computer for a while at night. If I see if she wants out she does not. If I check her food bowl it's fine, and so is the water. However if I leave the computer she heads for the bed as if to say you need to get off the computer and get to bed now! How about that? I get in bed and she jumps up at her place at the end of the bed.

The wife says the dog literally cries when I leave the house without her. It's going to break my heart to go on vacation next summer, and leave her with the parents.

This is pretty common, they seem to get on a schedule and get a bit upset when we don't follow suit, eh?

Mine will set her head on my leg and look all pitiful.

My last dog whom I loved dearly, however, would go to bed without me. Oh she'd come over and look at me briefly and then head for bed as if to say "the heck with you I'm going to bed."

That same dog would beat me to the one and only cot when we camped out together. She's force her way through the tent door as I unzipped it and jump up on the cot and look as me as if to say, "I got her first. "Tough ****." Refused to sleep on the floor of the tent. We had to "share" the cot. I miss her dearly but love this one just as much.

Heh yeah.. our dogs seem to be the only companions that never complain about always having to be with us.

I understand about the cot thing.. mine just shares my cot during hunting excursions, it's quite uncomfortable and i usually have to tell her to get down (darn thing just isn't big enough for both of us). She usually sneaks back up after im asleep.

Reba,

the first Field Bred Springer that I had was too smart for her own good. I got her when she was abut 2.5 years old. Her previous owner's (Mike K) wife wouldn't let any of their dogs inside the house. Reba was house broken before Mike got her. When he took her on the road to the different field trials, he kept her in the hotel room at night and she slept on the bed with him. When I got her, I kept her in the house, and she knew right from the start that she wasn't allowed up on the furniture or bed (well sometimes wink ). She was good about it, she wouldn't get up on anything unless told to, even if she was left alone in the house all day. But, take her on the road? As soon as the hotel room door opened, she was up on the bed as a liver and white streak. She'd look as if she was saying "O.K., in your house you rule. But on the road, this bed is mine!"

Cal,

well, when he was a pup the next door neighbor girls would come over and have all the pups out of the ex pen that I had outside. I'd come home from work and there would the be the 3 girls, each sitting on the grass with their backs braced against the ex pen, legs straight out in front of them. Each would have at least one pup asleep, belly up laying between their knees. He could get up on the bed and not even make it move. Somehow he just jumped up, but VERY smoothly. Next thing you knew, you had a dog laying on the bed next to you on his back, all 4 feet in the air.

Kate,

she's a little different. She'll get up and sleep at the foot of the bed, usually wiggling her way so she's between your legs or feet and curled up in a ball. But, most nights she sleeps in her crate, door open.

My pup, black lab mix, won't go to bed without me either. She insists on resting below my feet wherever I am, be it my desk, couch, or the bed.

Keep 'em coming guys. I know we all love our dogs. Hey even cats if you want. I like cats too although if I had a choice I'd go with a dog.

Luna likes sleeping on her own bed. Thats a picture of her in the travel trailer. The only time she jumps on my bed is to wake me up. She goes with me everywhere. All I have to do is pick up my truck keys and she comes running. Actually it is HER truck, I am just the chauffeur.

She will be 7yo this February 27th, and is currently fighting cancer. She is a very good dog!

My black lab is conked out next to me on the couch right now. Hiking the mountains of PA all day chasing after grouse will do that to a dog and her owner!

She has to be the most vocal dog I have ever had and that doesn't mean barking. I swear she is part pig cause she oinks. When I break out the hunting clothes and shotgun, she goes nuts!

Ditto. Purdue said Reba would only last 6 months (Nasal tumor) and with some holistic help she lasted another 14 months. It's never easy.

This is Sweetie, my little fishing buddy - she's now 14 years old, deaf and almost blind, but she liked the snow we had a couple of weeks go.

She always rode in the bow of the boat and would bark when I set the hook an a fish, telling everone witin hearing distace I was on fish - never broke her from the habit or really wanted to.

This is her country cousin that outweighs her by more than 100 lbs and is a pussy cat until otters show up and suddenly disappear!

George,

That's neat about the barking! My last dog loved riding in the boat and would stand up like RIN TIN TIN on the bow when I opened up the motor as if to say this is my master's boat and we are it! She also got excited when I had a fish on and there were times I couldn't get the net in the water because she was in the way!

My latest dog isn't crazy about being in the boat and is glad when we are back at shore, but I'm working on it.

My big dog Lucky will bark when I cast about half the time. If I leave him on the bank he will swim after the boat.

I have to keep a muzzle on my dog when fishing in my boat. She has bitten a lure in the past and got a mouth full of hooks, barks every time I cast and tries to attack the fish when I land them. She loves being on the boat. I think taking her out as a young pup conditioned her for it. With a muzzle she is an excellent fishing companion. For exercise in the summer I toss her overboard and have her chase me while I run the trolling motor. She's a fast swimmer, if I am not doing at least 3 mph, she'll catch up to me.

A few years ago it was suggested to me to use my fishing gear to train my potential bird dog. Bad idea. She flipped out excited every time I grabbed my pole. Would jump into the water after the lure so I had to leave her home.

Good pics everyone! I just found out that laser pointer + Kate = good exercise tool for her. At night, she'll chase it all over the yard.

Got a new dog last February. She came from an animal shelter, person there named her Diamond and kept that name. Was tied up and abandoned in a parking lot before entering the shelter. As the famous saying goes, someone's trash became my treasure.

This was when she was still somewhat scared of larger animals.

Rainman, how many times do we have to tell you??!!!!!

No shoes on the couch!!!

Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:"
"She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."
