There is a new product line out designed to mark structure as you place it. If you have ever sunk structure you know how hard is is to keep track of where each unit lands. Now you can spot each crib as you sink them and remove and re-use. Works on any kind of structure and is all American made.

Classic item new name.. I was thinking some kind of GPS. Bad thing about floating markers everyone else knows where your structure is too..

I don't think you understand my fishing friend. They are made to be removable with a clip. You clip them on habitat when you throw them in the lake, to know where each one settles exactly. They pull fee and wind up as soon as you want. Create the exact shape of cover you want. Then quick before any one sees, take a picture of the layout and pull them all free and wind them up. You wouldn't leave them all out after you have sunk the structure. Now you have a well designed shape of cover only, you know about. Let alone know how to fish it from the best angles and where the spot on the spot lies.

You could do the same with rope, large slip floats, and a boat. Just have to tie the right knot, and more importantly know which piece of rope to pull...

Might be more expensive if you have to go out and buy the stuff, but most folks probably have all that laying around the house. Still a pretty interesting idea, though. It would be much easier than the "redneck" way.

Believe me, the "redneck" way is tried and true.Just gettin tired of saving money, to spend more time swearing.

Wouldn't a recyled 32-oz plastic soda bottle, with a few wheel-weights glued inside (length-wise, all in the same area) - then wrapped on the outside with 30' of braided nylon twine ~ to which a basic alligator clip is attached, do about the same thing?
The wheel-weight "ballast" would prevent the floating bottle from completely unloading any remaining twine-wraps after the decending structure hits bottom - and one sharp tug would free the alligator-clip's grip.
