My pond froze over in late October this year, which is at least three weeks earlier than usual. One of my canoes is filled with solid ice, and has been since late October or early November.

As of the 6:00 PM news, we have a 0 degree wind chill temperature. It is 11 degrees on the back deck, and the wind is nasty. It is heading down to the low single digits overnight.

Friday I burned about a week's worth of firewood in the furnace to keep the inside of the house even close to 70 degrees.

I took an ice chisel to the end of the dock tonight. There are about 9-10 inches of very clear ice on the pond.

I'm sure glad I don't live up north, or where it gets cold during the winter!
